Book Abstract

法国浪漫主义作家大仲马笔下的《三剑客》有“铁面人”一段曲折的情节：法国国王路易十四刚掌朝政，跋扈专横，其好战的政治取态令人民生活困苦。路易十四看上了三剑客之一阿托斯的儿子拉乌尔的未婚妻，遂故意派遣拉乌尔出征战场。其后，拉乌尔阵亡，路易十四夺得美人，阿托斯与其余两位剑客密谋复仇，往牢狱救出路易十四的孪生弟弟——终年戴着铁面具的神秘王子……一幕幕宫闱斗争由此展开。．
自然疗法（Naturopathy）之于西方主流医学，就好比铁面王子与路易十四。自然疗法自中世纪以来在西方医疗发展史中曾经长时间被隔绝于正统医学之外。其实，自然疗法的源头及其基本哲学，与西方主流医学并无分别，两者的发展本源皆可上溯至古希腊时期，西方“医学之父”希波克拉提斯。其医学基础理论提倡“自然治愈之能”，着重人类的自我治愈能力。
这哲学一直为自然疗法的核心思想。
然而，在西方的历史进程，自然疗法一直被迫戴上“铁面具”。不同时代的“三剑客”，乘思潮的反动，多次提倡自然疗法，并惹起与主流医学支持者的争辩。个中原因，实牵涉西方的宗教、社会、文化以及哲学思想的兴替。其曲折处，与“铁面人”可谓不相伯仲。
