陈廷一，出生于1947年1月，河南省鹿邑省人，军旅出身，吉林大学中文系毕业。
责任中国国土资源作家协会副主席，原任中国大地出版社副总编辑、编审。国土资源部高级职评委，享受国务院特殊津贴专家。中国作家协会会员，北京市作家协会会员，北京市华人文化研究院研究员，中国报告文学学会理事，中国传记文学学会理事，中国通俗文艺研究会常务理事，国内著名畅销书作家，传记文学界有“南叶北陈”的说法和“传记大王”的称号。2005年荣获中国优秀传记文学作家“十佳”的称号。
《许世友传奇》《孙中山大传》《宋氏三姐妹》分别荣获1997、1999年和2003年新闻出版总署优秀畅销书奖；《皇天后土》和《国土九章》分别荣获第三、第四届中华宝石报告文学奖；《共和之路——孙中山传》荣获2009年首届华侨文学奖纪实类最佳作品奖。《生死系于土地》获2012年全国报告文学奖。传记文学《布衣总统孙中山》节选于《孙中山大传》入选“国标”高中语文课本。出版长篇作品文学量达4200多万（含重版）。1999始，在故乡老子故里以稿费设立了“李耳文学基金会”晨光奖，奖掖文学亲人，至今已有百余人获奖。

“爸爸，妈咪！”一声清脆的招呼，把二老从沉思的天涯拉回到阳光下的现实，从等待的焦灼推向迎接的兴奋。
“霭龄！”“南希！”二老的四只胳膊一齐张开，像在等着接住快要摔倒的孩子。
宋霭龄顾不得领取行李，斜挎一只坤包，在人流最前面直向父母扑来。
啊！霭龄！再不是那个掏空人家的南瓜，往里面塞小鱼小虾的淘气包；再不是那个骑自行车围绕大胡子锡克族交通警转圈的倔女孩。如今，她体态丰满，秀发飘逸，浑身散发着青春的光泽青春的气息。她从甲板上跑来，像春风刮过田野，使人眼睛发亮，让人看了舒坦。
一直担心女儿装束人不人妖不妖的母亲，仔细打量去，只见她紧身的美式夏装，显出胸脯的高耸，臀部的浑圆。一双高跟鞋使她的步伐一跷一颠，别具韵味。巴拿马草帽上的一支艳丽羽毛，颤颤巍巍，是那么招摇，惹人注目。这有点出乎妈咪的意料，但似乎又本该如此，反正倪桂珍第一眼看了，没有反感，没有失望，倒感到自己的女儿确实漂亮。不愧是自己的孩子。对！也许应该是这个样子。留学生嘛，年轻人嘛，难道还能像老一辈的姑奶奶，穿大对襟褂子，脑后盘发髻吗？
宋霭龄扑过来了。围着父母旋转、叫嚷，搂爸爸的脖子，贴妈咪的脸颊，欢笑、泪水、不成句的问候。
一阵热烈的激动之后.三人乘汽车回虹口家中。宋霭龄透过车窗饱览她朝思暮想的大上海。街道两旁新添了不少房子，但她总感到楼房没有童年时看着高了，街道似乎窄了，一座座建筑灰头土脸。
“能找个有本事的男人就不错了，说什么总统夫人！”母亲似乎还在被那些闲话困扰，她并没有过高的奢望。
临睡之前，宋霭龄把这篇报道又仔细看了一遍，然后把所有的报纸都压在了箱底。一连几天，宋霭龄从早到晚忙着寻访昔日的朋友。回到家里，她多是发泄种种看不惯的牢骚，奚落那些人的僵化和守旧。
终于有一天，查理忍不住了：“我亲爱的女儿，你现在踩的是中国的土地，不要再用美国的眼光看这看那。我有重要的工作等着你做，从明天起，是不是尽量用中国话表达你的思想，多一点时间穿中国衣服。要知道，也有人在盯着你摇头呢。”
父亲并没有激动，但这话却不啻一条鞭子，抽在宋霭龄心上。这些天，刚见面的亲热和客气还笼罩着全家和她所见到的亲友，留学归来的优越感还不时在心头痒茸茸拱起，父亲所说的问题她连想都不曾想到过。现在父亲轻轻一点，她恍然大悟，顿感惭愧赧颜。她重重地点了点头，疾步跑回了自己的卧室……
宋霭龄换上了中国服装，尽力在思考问题时就用汉语词汇。五年前，为了适应美国的学习，她进行过一次艰难的转轨。现在那一套刚刚习惯，又要再转回来，这一次显然更困难一些。那时候她还是孩子，现在她已经20岁了，各个方面都有一种定型的趋向。说话除非特别留神，否则英语就会脱口而出。她在镜子里看西装和自己的身体是那么和谐，西装把自己衬托得那么富有青春朝气。她看那些在上海住久了的传教士夫人，也不如自己的穿着入时顺眼。唉！改吧，自己是中国人，以后也许还要嫁给中国人，还要在中国的土地上建功立业，没有这个转变终究是不行的。好在宋霭龄是个个性坚强的姑娘，一旦想明白了，她就有足够的毅力控制自己本能的冲动。
早上，宋霭龄穿上了一件白底粉花真丝旗袍。额上的头发压低了梳在后面，挽了个蓬松的发髻，脚上的鞋子换成了半高跟。她在镜子里仔细端详以后，满面春风、信心十足地蹦到了父亲面前。
“爸爸，早上好！”她说的是地道的上海话。
“啊！我的女儿好漂亮哟！”查理脸上绽开了会心的笑。
