Author Description

劳拉·E·伯克（Laura E.Berk），美国伊利诺伊州立大学心理系的著名教授，她在该校给本科生和研究生讲授“人的发展”课程达30多年之久。她于加利福尼亚大学伯克利分校获心理学学士学位，后在芝加哥大学获儿童发展与教育心理学专业硕士和博士学位，曾是康奈尔大学、加利福尼亚大学洛杉矶分校、斯坦福大学和南澳大学的访问学者。
伯克的研究领域涉及学校环境对儿童发展的影响、个人言语的发展等。其论著曾在多种顶级学术刊物发表，如《儿童发展》（Child Development）、《发展心理学》（Developmental Psychology）等，并曾给《今日心理学》（Psychology Today）以及《科学美国人》（Scientific Amenrican）杂志撰写多篇稿件。

陈会昌，北京师范大学心理学院发展心理研究所教授，博士生导师。曾任国际行为发展研究会执行委员会顾问兼中国地区协调员，中国心理学会理事，中国心理学会发展心理专业委员会副主任。现任国务院关心下一代工作委员会儿童发展中心专家委员会委员，中国家庭教育学会理事，中国青少年研究中心专家支持系统特聘专家，《亚洲与太平洋语言与听觉杂志》编委，香港《幼儿学报》编委。

Book Abstract

在1993年做的一项实验中，研究者报告说，在参加空间推理能力测验之前听了十几分钟莫扎特奏鸣曲的大学生，其成绩好于测验前听轻松的器乐曲和安静坐着的大学生（Rauscher，Shaw & Ky，1993）。研究者得出结论，莫扎特的音乐似乎引起了大脑的变化，使神经联结得到“预热”，从而促进了思维。但是，这种只听了15分钟音乐、被广泛宣传为“莫扎特效应”导致的行为进步，却不能得到重复验证。看来，莫扎特的音乐并没有导致真正的能力变化，它只不过促进了一种唤醒和情绪状态，使人把注意力集中到测验上（Husain，Thompson & Schellenberg，2002; Thompson，Schellenberg & Husain，2001）。
尽管没有确凿证据证明所谓“莫扎特效应”的存在，但是一些媒体和政界人士却热衷于一种说法：只要婴儿听一会儿古典音乐，大脑的神经联结就能快速形成，并将使其智力终生得益。很快地，佐治亚、田纳西和南达科他等州就开始向住院新生儿提供免费光盘。但是，关于莫扎特效应对婴儿影响的研究还根本没有人做过呢！一项对学龄儿童的实验也没有得出仅仅听音乐就能促进智力进步的结（McKelvie & Low，2002）。
研究显示，要想让心理测验分数持续增长，干预措施必须是长期的，必须让儿童积极参与。格伦·谢伦伯格（Glenn Schellenberg，2004）想查明，音乐课程能否促进智力发展。接受音乐课程训练的儿童，必须正规地投入练习，集中注意力，读乐谱，熟记乐句乐段，分析乐曲结构，掌握演奏技巧。这些经验可能有助于认知加工，尤其是在儿童期，各脑区正在形成对应机能，对环境影响有很高的可塑性和敏感性。
谢伦伯格招募了132名年龄刚够接受音乐课程训练的6岁儿童。先对这些儿童实施智力测验和社会性成熟度测验，以便考察音乐课究竟对发展的哪一方面起作用。然后把他们随机分配到四种实验条件下：其中两组是音乐组，一组上钢琴课，一组上声乐课；第三组上戏剧课，目的是查明智力进步是否只在音乐经验条件下发生；第四组是不上课的控制组，第二年再给他们上音乐课。音乐和戏剧课教学都在著名的多伦多皇家音乐学院进行，把儿童分成小组，由专业教师上课。经过36周的课程之后，对儿童的智力和社会性成熟度再次施测。
结果发现，四组儿童的智力测验成绩都有进步，可能是因为这些儿童刚上小学，入学学习一般能促进智力测验分数的进步。但是两个音乐组的分数都高于戏剧组和不上课组（见图1.8）。他们的领先虽然不多，但范围涉及几方面的心理能力，如言语技能、空间技能、思维速度等。在社会性成熟度方面，只有戏剧组有进步。
看来，主动、持续的音乐经验能够导致6岁儿童智力的小幅增长，增长超过可比较的戏剧课程。但是其他丰富多彩的活动，如阅读、科学、数学、下棋等也会带来类似的好处。所有这些活动都要求儿童投入比听莫扎特奏鸣曲多得多的时间和努力。可是，即使没有任何证据支持，唱片公司却还在出售这样的光盘，标题不一而足，像“让莫扎特给你的大脑调音”，“音乐促进学习”，“新生儿听莫扎特：灿烂的开端”等等。
